VPR Startup Procedure (for roi extraction and data display computers) Turning on and setting up the computers: Unplug the GPS serial line from the ROI-extraction computer. Boot the ROI-extraction computer (press F1 when prompted) (windows password is whoi) Plug the GPS serial line into the com2 port (the top one) on the roi-extraction computer. Boot the data processing/plotting computer (windows password is whoi) Set the system clocks on both computers to GMT using the GMT clock in the main lab (do this once per week) Map the network drive cdeck on the roi-extraction computer so that it can be read by the data processing/plotting computer. To do this use windows explorer, Tools | Map Network Drive. In the Drive window select Z:, in the folder mini-window type: \\128.128.110.28\cdeck and click finish. You should now be able to see the drive "cdeck" (the C: drive of the roi-extraction computer) on the data processing/plotting computer. Using the Roi-extraction program: Once the VPR is turned on, after a few minutes, check that the green led light on the fiber optic board in the roi-extraction computer is turned on (means data is coming in). Double-click the desktop icon labeled "Shortcut to Deck.exe" The program window will open and you should see the numeric data changing in the Oceanographic Data section. Click on File | Open and select the file: oc415.vpr (in the folder Z:\data\oc415\calibration\), press the Open button Click on Options | Set Output Path and create a folder for the cruise and vpr tow (e.g. vpr1) under the path Z:\data\cruisename\rois\vpr#, e.g., Z:\data\oc414\rois\vpr2
