Dear Bob, I want to thank you for your interest in the modeling activities which are taking place on board the R/V Edwin Link and R/V Endeavor. Comparing our model results with recent drifter trajectories and the movement of tracers that you and Jim Ledwell have observed, it is clear that our current forecasts have some shortcomings. From what we can tell thus far, these appear to be associated with the model's response to the recent wind events. Under the light wind conditions we had prior to your arrival, the model forecasts had much more skill; differences between simulated and observed drifter trajectories were on the order of a few kilometers after three days. We are working hard to sort out the recent problems, and will keep you informed of our progress. Congratulations on the success of your tracer release this week. Best Regards, Dennis McGillicuddy
