R/V /Oceanus, Voyage #466 (OC466) 11 July 2010 – 21 July 2010 The research objectives are to test several hypotheses related to the production of methylmercury in the marine environment (especially sediments) through field collections (air, water, sediments and biota), shipboard experiments, and laboratory tests. Planned scientific activities on this cruise will focus on 12-14 coring stations that span a range of sediment texture and biogeochemistry on the continental shelf and slope. Box-coring will be conducted at each station. Trace-metal-clean rosette collections of water and open-closing Planned scientific activities on this cruise will focus on 12-14 coring stations that span a range of sediment texture and biogeochemistry on the continental shelf and slope. Box-coring will be conducted at each station. Trace-metal-clean rosette collections of water and open-closing net sampling for zooplankton are also planned for each coring station. High-resolution water-column profiles will be made at seven or more of the sampling locations. Underway mercury sampling of air and water will be conducted throughout the cruise. Many mercury related on-board experiments will be carried out and numerous samples will be preserved for later laboratory analyses and experiments. The operations area will be the North West Atlantic Ocean Continental Margin south of Nova Scotia to about the latitude of Delaware Bay Lat/Lon: 42$B!k(B 15.0$B!l(B N / 66$B!k(B 20.0$B!l(B at a depth range: 100-150 / 3000 meters.
