R/V Oceanus, Voyage #438 (OC438) 5 September 2007 - 5 September 2007 Woods Hole, MA - Woods Hole, MA The main scientific research objective is to: (1) deploy a surface mooring near the Martha's Vineyard Coastal Observatory, (2) examine the performance of a new radar enhancer by steaming away from the buoy when enhancer is on and off, and (3) verify operation of the wave-measurement instrument on the buoy after deployment by confirming receipt of valid satellite telemetry messages. The primary purpose of the mooring deployment is to test and calibrate a new sensor for measurement of surface waves from a surface buoy. The planned activities include a mooring deployment and radar return evaluation. The operations area will be off of the south coast of Martha's Vineyard in the vicinity of 41°19'42.44"N, 70°33'21.76"W.
