R/V Knorr, built in 1969 and overhauled over 1989-1991, measures 279 feet (85 m) in length with a draft of 16.5 feet (5 m) and a 2,685 LT volumetric displacement. She can be at sea up to 60 days with 22 crew, 32 scientists and 2 technicians and sail at cruising speed of 11.0 knots carrying a gross tonnage of 2,518 T including 160,500 gallons of fuel.
